When called

Referendums can also be held on a local, regional or national level.  Some referendums, such as one to gauge opinion on whether we should have an elected Mayor for the borough, must be requested via a petition signed by 5% of the electorate.  Each year, the Electoral Registration Officer publishes a notice confirming what the electorate figure is.
