Swap Your Home
Swap Your Home
A mutual exchange allows tenants to swap their homes with other tenants.
Properties are exchanges as they are seen, certain fixtures and fittings that are in the properties at the time of exchange will be your responsibility. You will be asked to sign a disclaimer as part of the exchange and will therefore be made aware of what is your responsibility and what is the Council's responsibility.
Eligibility for Exchange
If you live in a Broxtowe Borough Council property, you have to hold a secure tenancy to be eligible for a mutual exchange.
You will need to someone to swap with. The Council is signed up to Homeswapper, (Opens in a New Window) which is free to use and helps tenants to find a swap.
Exchanges Outside of Broxtowe
You can move to other social housing providers, such as housing associations.
Restrictions on Exchanges
Property size, type and certain personal circumstances can lead to the refusal of a mutual exchange. Further information is available on the application form and by talking to your Housing Officer.
Mutual Exchange Process
Before exchanging properties you must gain the written consent from the Council and if the person you wish to exchange with is not our tenant, you will also require the consent of the other landlord. In order for your application to be considered you should complete the form below in full and send this to the Council Offices in Beeston.
The Council has 42 days to make a decision on your application.
