Financial Inclusion
Knowing where to start and who to turn to can be difficult if you have money worries, Broxtowe Borough Council’s Financial Inclusion Department can offer free and confidential support and guidance.
Money worries can be stressful, so we will do everything we can to support you. Contacting our team will allow you to discuss these worries, complete benefits checks, plan your expenses and look for ways to maximise your income and minimise outgoings.

Get in touch
To start feeling better about your finances, please contact 0115 9173658 and speak to a member of the Income Team who can complete a referral to the Financial Inclusion Service. You can also email the team to discuss a referral at financial.inclusion@broxtowe.gov.uk .
Opening hours
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8.30am to 5pm
- Fridays from 8.30am to 4.30pm
Ways we can Help
We can:
- Check you are receiving the correct benefits and help you claim any you aren't currently receiving including Universal Credit, Carers Allowance, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Pension Credit
- Help you to prioritise your bills.
- Help you access other grants or refer you to other services if necessary.
- Assist with providing access to emergency food and energy support.
- Help to request a review of a benefits decision.
- Refer complex cases which need specialist support to organisations that can assist.
- Provide information about other services that can give advice and support.
Appointments
We can offer an appointment in our offices, in your home or simply over the phone. In some cases, we may need to refer you for specialist help.
Referrals
If you are referred to us for support by another department at Broxtowe Borough Council or external organisation, a member of our team will contact you usually by phone to discuss the referral in more detail.
Our aim is to contact you as soon as possible but at busy times our response times are detailed below:
- In immediate need of food and energy support – 24 hours
- In rent arrears – between 5-14 working days
- Budgeting Support & income maximisation (no rent arrears) – 28 days
Before the appointment
Please make sure your phone is fully charged and accepts calls from unknown numbers.
Gather as much information about your finances as possible.
To provide the best possible service, we will require the following:
- A completed income and expenditure form (word) (198KB) (Opens in a New Window).
- Copies of your last three months' bank statements.
- Any other information that you feel will help.

Local Food Banks
The Trussell Trust have four in the borough tenants can visit. The Financial Inclusion team must complete the referral for a request for a food parcel.
