Chilwell Soldier Honoured with New Street Sign
After several years of planning, Broxtowe Borough Council, in conjunction with Keepmoat Limited, have unveiled the new street sign for Brelsford Close, named after Sgt Craig Brelsford, located on the Sherwin Gardens estate in Bramcote.

Sgt Brelsford was killed in action on the 8 September 2007, along with his colleague, Private Johan Botha in Afghanistan. He was subsequently awarded a posthumous Military Cross for his bravery.
Speaking at the unveiling of the sign, Sgt Brelsford’s mother, Mrs Susan Brelsford, said “I am enormously proud of Craig and his military service. The reputation he had amongst both Commanding Officer and the soldiers he served with makes me immensely proud of my son. He gave his life trying to protect others and I’m delighted that his legacy will live on.”
Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Robert Bullock said: “Sgt Brelsford was clearly very popular with his colleagues and had a bright future ahead of him. It is very sad that his life was ended too soon. I am so pleased that we have been able to honour him in this way and I was incredibly moved to see his mother’s reaction at the unveiling and how much it meant to her to have her son’s legacy live on in the Borough he was from.”
Adam Sharpe, Managing Director at Keepmoat said: “Keepmoat is honoured to dedicate this street to Sgt Brelsford. His courage and sacrifice will be remembered here for generations, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who live and walk along the street at our Sherwin Gardens development”
