Description

A humorous talk by Maureen Taylor, a well known expert on Bess of Hardwick and Elizabethan customs and manners. Maureen will appear dressed as Sir Walter Raleigh's wife (who was also called Bess) and talk about her time as Bess of Hardwick’s, friend and confidant. The talk will take place on Friday 29th October in St Catherine's Church Church Lane, Cossall, starting at 7.30 pm, please be seated by 7.00 pm. Tickets: adults £5.00, under 12's £3.00 (pay on the door only) and includes coffee or tea and biscuits during the interval. She was a woman ahead of her time who set out to build a dynasty and succeeded. Her descendants flourished on the foundations laid by Bess and now include the Dukes of Devonshire, Portland, Kingston and Newcastle, and the Earls of Shrewsbury, Pembroke, Arundel and Kent.
