Revaluations & Appeals
Every 5 years the Valuation Office Agency re-assesses all business properties and gives them new rateable values, based on rental values to reflect the changes in the property market across the Country. This can mean some business rates will rise and some will fall.
The last revaluation took effect from 1st April 2010. The next revaluation was due to take place with effect from 1st April 2015, however this was delayed.
The Government have now confirmed the next revaluation of Business Rates will be in April 2017 in England and regular 5 yearly reviews will resume thereafter.
If you think that your rateable value is inaccurate, possibly due to a change to the property, the ratepayer (and certain others with an interest in the property) may make a proposal to alter the value.
If you want to make an appeal you should contact the Valuation Office Agency. Appeals against rateable values can be made free of charge.
