Voter ID
These elections will be the first to be held since the Government introduced a requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling station. The Electoral Commission have produced a booklet with information which can be viewed here (.pdf)(1.25MB)(Opens in a New Window).
Most voters may already have photo ID that will be accepted, such as:
- Passport
- Photocard Driving licence (including provisional licence)
- Blue badge
- Certain concessionary travel cards
- Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
- Biometric Immigration document

What if I don't have an acceptable form of photo ID?
If you don’t already have an accepted form of photo ID, or you’re not sure whether your photo ID still looks like you, you can apply for a free voter ID document, known as a Voter Authority Certificate (Opens in a New Window).

Registering to vote and absent voting
Any elector who needs to register to vote at their address can do so online. Please make sure you have your national insurance number to hand as you will need this as part of the application process.

It may be possible to apply for an emergency proxy after the proxy deadline above if a medical or employment issue has arisen after 5pm on Tuesday 25 April. Please contact Electoral Services for further information.

All candidates nominations must be received by 4pm on Tuesday 4 April 2023. Candidates or agents should make an appointment to submit their nominations in person. More information will be provided at the briefing.
