Electoral Register

There are two registers. Why?

Electoral registration officers must keep two registers - the electoral register and the open register.

The electoral register lists the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote and is used for electoral purposes, such as making sure only eligible people can vote.  It can also be used for detecting crime, calling people for jury service and checking credit applications.

Candidates, registered political parties and other registered campaigners are also allowed to have copies of the full electoral register. They can use the register for campaigning activities, including sending election communication to voters.

The open register is an extract of the full electoral register. This version is available to anyone who wants to buy it, such as businesses or charities.

Your name and address will be included in the open register unless you ask for them to be removed. Removing your details from the open register would not affect your right to vote and you can do this by completing an online form. (Opens in a New Window) Your details will be removed from any future open register but cannot be removed from any open register that has already been published.

Broxtowe Borough Council

Publication of Revised Register of Electors

Notice is hereby given, in accordance with the representation of the People Act 1983, that a revised version of the Register of Electors for the Broxtowe Borough Council area will be published on 1 February 2024.

The revised Register will incorporate the changes to polling districts as approved by Broxtowe Borough Council on 13 December 2023.

The Register will be available for inspection at the address below during normal office hours by appointment only.

Inspection of the Electoral Register

The current electoral register and monthly alteration notices are available for inspection under supervision at the Council Offices, Foster Avenue, Beeston.  Appointments can be made to view the electoral register by contacting Electoral Services.  Appointments will be scheduled  from Monday to Friday between 10:00am and 12:00pm and 2:00pm and 4:00pm.

Please note that in accordance with the Representation of the People (England and Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2002, the following rules apply to everyone inspecting the full register of electors:

• Extracts from the register may be recorded only by making hand written notes. Photocopying or electronic recording are not permitted by law.

• Information taken from the register must not be used for direct marketing purposes unless the information has been published in the open version of the register.

   

Buying the Open Register

The open register is publicly available and can be bought, whole or in part, and used for any purpose. Information on the cost of buying the open register is available from Electoral Services.
