Little Oaks Nursery

Family business Little Oaks Nursery has been going strong in Kimberley for 27 years.

Little Oaks Nursery seems to be part of the furniture in Kimberley now, the family-run business has seen generations of Kimberley residents come and go, which has allowed them to develop a real family feel among the local community.Linda at Little Oaks Nursery

Following the award of a £15,500 Kimberley Means Business Grant, the nursery was able to upgrade a number of fixtures to become more energy efficient, including new toilets and automatic taps (which the children are fascinated by), lighting, and windows – helping to keep energy bills low.

With the new toilets, Little Oaks cleverly tied it in with a campaign about saving water that they were able to teach, encouraging the next generation of eco champions.

Qualified nursery nurse Linda, and her husband Nick who is a builder, first opened Little Oaks Nursery in 1998, building much of the original nursery from scratch. Since then, three of their children have joined the business with their daughter Maisie now teaching, and their sons Billy and Kieran carrying out maintenance and running kids’ clubs during the holidays, helping to maintain a real homey feel among staff and children.

Linda has seen many children pass through her nursery and even some come back with children of their own, which gives her a unique insight into the wonderful Kimberley community, but also means that she, her family, and the team at Little Oaks have helped to mould the community into what it is today.

Now with more energy efficient buildings, Little Oaks can keep bills low, ensuring they’re able to provide top class nursery care for the next generations in Kimberley.

Owner Linda says, “The Grant enabled us to replace all of our original lighting and install energy efficient bulbs which are more economical to run. The automatic taps and low flushing toilets also reduce wastage and therefore helps keep bills low which really helps the sustainability of the business. We love being part of the Kimberley community and hope to support many more families in the future.”

Kimberley Means Business is UK Government funded and is administered by Broxtowe Borough Council in partnership with Kimberley Town Council.
