We had an incredible 601 entries to our children's writing competition in 2025, a new record and over double the amount of entries as 2024! The competition had great engagement from Broxtowe, the UK, and beyond, receiving submissions from all over the globe including, Thailand, USA, and Spain!

The team of judges from the D.H. Lawrence Society, Nottingham City of Literature, Eastwood Writers’ Group and Broxtowe Borough Council loved reading all the entries. Thank you to everyone that took part - we hope to see you enter again next year!

 

An Adventure in Egypt - Arthur, age 7

Arthur’s ‘Adventure in Egypt’, winner in the 4-7 age category, follows a boy called Oscar and his mysterious duck, Avery, on an action-packed journey through the ruins of ancient Egypt!

 

My Little Paradise - Leen, age 11

Leen, age 11, draws together all corners of the animal kingdom in this expertly crafted poem that won first prize in the 2025 D.H. Lawrence Children's Writing Competition 8-11 age category.

 

The Classroom Clock - Oluwatamilore, age 13

The Classroom Clock, winner in the D.H Lawrence Children's Writing Competition age 12-16 category, superbly tells the story of what mischief animals get up to in the city under the cover of darkness.

 

Once Upon A Maximus - Mia, age 10

Once Upon A Maximus, by Mia age 10, tells the heartfelt story of how she and her cat Maximus came to meet - tissues at the ready! Mia's story won her first prize in the Best of Broxtowe age 8-11 category in our D.H. Lawrence Children's Writing Competition. Read by Charlotte Snow.

 

A Different Type of Animal - Alexa, age 12
