New Pavilion For Kimberley Miners’ Recreation Ground

09/06/2025 - Kimberley Miners’ Recreation Ground will benefit from a new pavilion thanks to UK Government funding, as part of Broxtowe Borough Council’s Kimberley Means Business project.

Demolition of the existing pavilion is scheduled to take place this month, outside the football season, ready for work to commence on the new building which it is hoped will be completed by the end of the year. The current pavillion before demolition

As well as improvements to the pavilion, there will be upgraded changing facilities which will also include dedicated space for female officials to change, and availability for the space to be hired for community functions and parties when not being used for sporting purposes.

Whilst the works take place, Kimberley Miners’ Welfare Football Club will groundshare with Basford United.

Leader of Broxtowe Borough Council and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Asset Management, Milan Radulovic, said: “The Council has worked closely with Kimberley Town Council and Kimberley Miners Recreation Ground Trust to develop plans for these improved sporting facilities. Kimberley Miners Recreation Ground is an important site in helping the local community to keep active, provide social opportunities for residents and to honour our mining heritage so it’s fantastic to see work starting."

Neil Doherty, Trustee of Kimberley Miners Recreation Ground Trust, which manages the site, said: “It's fantastic to see this project get off the ground. The new pavilion will be a fantastic new asset for the residents of Kimberley for many years to come. A big thank you to everyone involved in getting the project to this stage.”

Kimberley Means Business is UK Government funded and is administered by Broxtowe Borough Council in partnership with Kimberley Town Council.
