Eastwood boxer becomes double World Champion in Hungary thanks to a Council grant
Competing as part of a group of 24 young boxers from Revolution Gym, based in Sutton-In-Ashfield, the boxer went to the championships boasting an unbeaten record of 15-0. Having won the Lightweight title at the WFC World Championships in 2024, Taylor went back this year to compete in the Super Lightweight division, winning the World Championship title and improving his record to 16-0.
However, Taylor decided he wasn’t done there and entered into the Welterweight division, progressing through the quarter and semi-finals, before clinching his second World Championship belt in the final.
In the ring he fights alone – but never without the strength of those behind him. With his Mum Laura’s unwavering support, his brothers Alfie and Bailey's constant encouragement, his sponsor Rick’s loyal support and coach Neil’s tireless guidance.
The award of a £1,000 grant from Broxtowe Borough Council meant that Taylor was able to cover costs such as travel and accommodation, allowing him to showcase his talent on an international stage.
Now with an incredible record of 19-0 at just 19 years of age, the boxer has ambitions to reach 20-0 before his 20th birthday.
The double WFC World Champion, Taylor Brown, said, “Broxtowe Borough Council’s Grant Aid has helped massively with my boxing journey leading up to The WFC World Championships for this year and last. These grants have had a massive impact on my journey, allowing me to have the right nutrition, one-to-one training with my coach, Neil Huntley, and covered all flights and accommodation for me to compete for Great Britain.
Since the start of my career Neil has been a phenomenal role model, inspiring me to do well in life and not leave my dreams on the pillow. Not only has he been a coach but also a father figure that’s helped guide me through life’s challenges.
My career took a massive turn in June 2023 and since then it’s been pure hard work, dedication and discipline. I train six days a week at Revolution gym, in Sutton-in-Ashfield, which is full of unbelievably hard working talent of all ages.
I’d like to say a massive thank you to Broxtowe Borough Council for putting their faith in me and funding me to be able to go and compete. Anything is possible!”
Deputy Leader of Broxtowe Borough Council and Portfolio Holder for Resources and Personnel said, “What Taylor has managed to achieve in becoming a World Champion in two different weight categories is truly remarkable and is testament to the hard work and dedication he has shown. I’m so pleased we were able to support him with this grant, allowing him to go and compete, and win at the highest level. An incredible feat from one of Eastwood’s and Broxtowe’s very own. I look forward to seeing his career go from strength to strength and wish him all the best into the future.”
