Broxtowe Borough Council votes to reject Local Government Reorganisation Proposals
The decision was taken by the Council’s Cabinet earlier this evening (27 November), following a debate at full Council on Wednesday (26 November).
As part of their decision making, Members considered the business cases for Option 1b, Option 1e and Option 1Bii (Nottingham City expanded boundaries) and unanimously decided that they did not wish to support any of these proposals.
A Potential Impact Assessment Report was also considered and it was agreed that this would be submitted to Government by Broxtowe Borough Council.
Members also agreed to write to the Secretary of State highlighting that the Council was not against Local Government Reorganisation in principle, but to call for the process to be halted in order for it to be considered more fully.
In a survey of Broxtowe residents, 71% of the 12,507 respondents said they did not support any of the options.
The deadline for Councils to submit a Local Government Reorganisation proposal to Government is 28 November. Other councils in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire have submitted their own business cases to be reviewed by Government, with formal consultation expected in early 2026 and a final decision in summer 2026.
