Broxtowe raises White Ribbon Flag signalling commitment to end violence against women and girls
Letting sexism slide puts women and girls at risk, that’s why this year more men are being asking to use their voices and speak up to create a world where everyone is safe, equal and respected.
Lots of people see crimes like sexual assault or harassment as extreme and isolated incidents that have nothing to do with their daily lives. The truth is that even the smallest of every day actions count to make a difference to stop them from happening. By simply not passing off sexist ‘jokes’, catcalling or staring, you can help stop behaviour that can lead to serious violence. Every time we ignore something that doesn’t feel right, we miss a chance to set a better example.
The Mayor of Broxtowe said, "We must challenge inappropriate behaviour when we see it, support those who are affected by it, and model the values of equality and respect in our daily interactions. We can help build communities where women and girls are safe, valued, and empowered."
To get involved you could:
- Wear a White Ribbon and speak about what it means to you, with your family, friends and colleagues and encourage them to do the same.
- Make the White Ribbon Promise to never use, excuse or remain silent about men’s violence against women and girls.
- Become a White Ribbon Ambassador or Champion today at – Ambassadors and Champions — White Ribbon UK (Opens in a new window)
White Ribbon UK is the leading charity in England and Wales that works to end men’s violence against women and girls by preventing it from happening in the first place by engaging men and boys to be part of the solution.
