Broxtowe Marks Holocaust Memorial Day

15/01/2026 - The Broxtowe Community will come together at a short ceremony later this month to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. The event will take place in the Walled Garden at Bramcote Hills Park at 11.00am on Tuesday 27 January 2026.

The Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Robert Bullock will join the Leader of the Council, Councillor Milan Radulovic MBE, Youth Mayor Toby Goldszmit and pupils from Alderman White School in delivering readings and choir performances to reflect this years theme of ‘Bridging Generations’. Members of the public are warmly encouraged to attend.

The Mayor of Broxtowe, Councillor Robert Bullock, said: “Holocaust Memorial Day is an important day in our civic calendar. The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day this year is " Bridging Generations,” it is a powerful call to action. It reminds us that the responsibility of remembrance does not rest solely with the survivors of the Holocaust, it lives on through their children, their grandchildren and through all of us. When we gather to honour the past, we must also recognise our role in preserving its lessons for future generations.”

This year’s theme not only highlights the vital role the next generation plays in carrying forwards the memory of the Holocaust, it also emphasises the importance of preserving and sharing stories from the Holocaust, and other more recent genocides, in ways that resonate with people today.

Bridging Generations invites us to honour each life and to honour those who left no family to carry their legacy, whose legacies live on, not through bloodlines but through books, films and other interpretations allowing us to bridge the gap between past and future generations, to ensure these crucial parts of history are never forgotten.

The ceremony will take place at the Holocaust Memorial which give us an opportunity to honour the millions who suffered during the Holocaust under Nazi persecution, and in genocides that have taken place since.
