Major Step Forward for New Leisure Centre as Planning Permission Granted
The decision marks an important milestone in delivery of the new replacement Bramcote Leisure Centre, which will provide modern, accessible facilities designed to support health, wellbeing and community activity for residents across the area.
The proposed development includes a 25 metre 6 lane swimming pool with viewing gallery, a 20m teaching pool and spectator area, a spin studio, a large fitness suite, exercise hall, changing facilities and office space, creating a welcoming environment for people of all ages and abilities.
The new centre will replace the existing leisure centre, ensuring long term, high quality provision for the community. As the new centre will be located on the existing car park area, some alternative, temporary car parking arrangements will also be provided.
Solar panels will be installed on the roof to help reduce the carbon footprint of the building.
Councillor Teresa Cullen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Health said: “Securing planning permission is a major step forward for this project and we are delighted to be moving into the next phase of delivery of this important community facility. We have made some changes to the original proposals following consultation with local residents, stakeholders and user groups to ensure the new centre meets the needs of the local community and supports them to live healthier lifestyles.”
Adrian Turner, Director of Client Success from ReCreation, the Development Consultant for the new facility said, “We guarantee our clients a recreation centre that their community will love – and this new facility for Broxtowe will be exactly that, so we are delighted to have passed this major milestone of achieving planning consent.”
The project has been shaped through consultation with local residents, stakeholders and user groups and local Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington formally backed the project following a visit in 2024.
With planning permission now in place, the project team will move forward with the next stages of delivery, including procurement and construction planning, subject to final approval at Cabinet.
