No cuts to Jobs or Services: Broxtowe Borough Council agrees budget for 2026/27
The budget was approved at a Council meeting on Wednesday 4 March. It focuses on supporting local people, protecting front-line services and investing in the future of the Borough.
Councillor Greg Marshall, the Deputy Leader and Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Resources and Personnel said: “Even with ongoing financial pressures, we are proud to deliver another no cuts budget that protects services for local residents. Most households will pay less than £5 extra a year for Broxtowe services, whilst we continue to build council houses, invest in our town centres, parks and green spaces and environmental projects for the future.
We take nothing for granted and by carefully managing our finances and using reserves, we have reduced a projected £2 million budget gap to achieve a balanced budget. This has helped us keep Council Tax increases as low as possible.”
Key points from the budget include:
- No compulsory job losses and no cuts to services.
- Continuing to build new and affordable housing, helping people to live well.
- Ensuring Broxtowe continues to have one of the lowest social housing rents in the East Midlands.
- A below inflation council tax increase of 2.94%, which for a Band D home is just an extra £5.68 a year for Broxtowe services.
- Delivering major regeneration projects, including over £21 million invested in Stapleford, £16 million in Kimberley, rebuild plans progressing a new leisure centre in Bramcote and working towards a much-needed new health hub in Eastwood.
- Ongoing funding for climate action, including greener fuel for Council vehicles, green festivals, climate change forum, Green Rewards initiative, free tree scheme and support for energy-efficient homes to help work towards becoming carbon neutral by December 2027.
- Support for people with disabilities, through grants to adapt homes.
- Funding for community safety projects.
- Continued work with voluntary and community groups.
