Progress Made On Improvement Programme Following Regulator of Social Housing Inspection
Following publication of the Regulator's judgement, the Council accepted the findings in full and has been working through an improvement programme designed to prioritise and address the issues raised.
Since the inspection, a number of important steps have already been taken:
- Contacting over 2,000 tenants to ensure up to date records and further understand the diverse needs of tenants so that services can be tailored in a more proactive way.
- An improved system to capture and distribute fire safety actions to Officers and contractors, alongside improved oversight has contributed to the reduction of fire safety actions.
- Completed 350 stock condition surveys over the last two months to assess and programme future improvements.
- The introduction of more detailed performance reports which are shared with the Housing Improvement Board, which is made up of the Interim Chief Executive, Portfolio Holder for Housing, Tenant representatives and Council Offices. The board provides increased opportunities for scrutiny and performance management.
- Regular meetings with the Regulator for Social Housing to share progress and give assurances.
- Engagement events with tenants to help them understand the Regulator’s findings and what the Council is doing to improve.
Portfolio Holder for Housing, Councillor Vanessa Smith said: “We welcomed the Regulator’s reports and feedback when we received its findings and making the required improvements is a Council-wide priority. Officers across multiple departments and Members are working collectively to deliver the improvement plan and I am pleased to see improvements progressing at pace. There is still considerable work to do, but we are confident that we can keep up the momentum to make lasting changes and meet our Regulator’s requirements.”
Broxtowe Borough Council received a C3 rating from the Regulator for Social Housing following a thorough inspection in October 2025, in relation to the Regulator’s consumer standards.
A C3 grade means that the Council is not meeting the Regulator’s requirements and must work to improve its position. This is the first time that the Council has been assessed in this way following the introduction of new regulations as part of the Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023.
