Three Eastwood icons celebrated in town square
Three new benches have been installed in addition to three new flower beds and a community noticeboard.
Three mosaics of Eastwood icons from the past have also been installed in the pavement, featuring D.H. Lawrence, the Eastwood Tram, and the Midland Railway, paying homage to the town’s history and heritage.
Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the project will improve the aesthetic of the area, showcasing a renewed look in this part of Eastwood Town Centre.
Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Asset Management, Councillor Milan Radulovic MBE, said, “The finished improvements look fantastic; giving a great lift to the appearance of the area, and will give residents pride in their town.
“The subtle nods to some icons that, each in their own ways, have shaped the very town we see today is a great way to celebrate the Eastwood’s culture and heritage”.
Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward said, “Hollies Square has been transformed into a wonderful space reflecting the character and pride of Eastwood, creating a welcoming environment for residents, businesses and visitors alike.
“The inclusion of mosaics celebrating DH Lawrence, the Eastwood Tram and the Midland Railway is a thoughtful way of recognising the town’s rich heritage, while enhancing the look and feel of the area.
“Funding from the East Midlands Combined County Authority, via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, allows projects like this to deliver more than just improvements to public spaces. It strengthens local pride, supports the town’s economic vitality, and provides opportunities that benefit the community for years to come.”
This project received £12,000 from East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) from funding provided by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is providing £25.17 million of funding for local investment across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire in 2025/26. This funding, distributed by the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), aims to boost pride in place and increase life chances in the region. The investment will focus on supporting communities and businesses, as well as developing skills for individuals.
Broxtowe Borough Council has been allocated a total of £1,056,720 in 2025/6. Activity funded includes local business and skills support and a set of community projects
