We want Stapleford to be a great place to live and that means investment in making sure people have access to facilities which help them have active, healthy, enjoyable lifestyles.

We want to promote cohesion through an inclusive and sustainable space for communities to participate in wellbeing activities and bring people together and help them stay active.

The new centre will be a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient building and sports ground on the Hickings Lane Recreation Ground. It will replace the existing pavilion building and bring local community groups together under one roof.

The building will feature a café, function rooms, community centre space and a dedicated young people’s centre, in addition to sports pitches and changing rooms, with extra car parking and cycle storage.

The building is planned to open in 2025.Artist impression of pavilion

This project also includes a new Community Outreach Worker. This role will engage with the whole community, supporting individuals’ progression through skills and educational attainment as well as linking in with local employment opportunities.

A drop-in event took place on Thursday 25 May, at the Sports Pavilion on the Hickings Lane Recreation Ground, where people could see the plans and architect's visualisations and ask questions and input into the project.

The plans were approved at planning committee on Wednesday 7 June 2023.
