Local community team takes on Stapleford Community Pavilion café contract

A local community team is gearing up to open the doors to the all-new Insight Community Kitchen at the Stapleford Community Pavilion on Hickings Lane in September.

Insight Community Kitchen will be run by Insight Community Project, which works locally to improve community wellbeing through activities like youth clubs, holiday clubs and dance classes.  Zara Cook, Louise Ferron, Owen Ferron and Grace Oldham, from Insight Community Kitchen

The experienced team will prepare and serve a wide range of hot and cold home-cooked meals, sandwiches, breakfasts, salad bowls, desserts and smoothies, with specials from around the world, such as jerk chicken and Mexican nachos.

"We've designed our menu to appeal to everyone. From people using the sports pitches, to the Steven Gerrard Academy, Stapleford Town FC, families visiting the park, class and activity attendees, and really just anyone who wants to pop in for breakfast or lunch," said Owen Ferron, café manager and Insight Community project director.

Owen has over 15 years’ experience in the catering industry, including working at Loxley House and running a Caribbean café and events catering service. He and the team provide meals for Insight Community Project's award-winning school holiday clubs, and has delivered community cooking classes to young people and families in the area for the last few years.

Ian Jowett, Stapleford Towns Fund Chair, said: “We’re delighted to welcome the Insight Community Project team to run this brand-new café at our Stapleford Community Pavilion.

“The Pavilion has been designed to become the heart of the community, a place for people of all ages to come together for events, activity classes and sport. Insight Community Project will ensure a fantastic selection of home cooked food and drinks is on offer and will also enhance the community ethos behind the Towns Fund investment with its extra events and activities.”

The café will open during the day from mid-September, and plans are already underway for October half-term activities at the café, a school art competition to design café artwork and an annual football tournament to raise money for local youth clubs.

Owen added: "The café and Pavilion will be a safe and positive space where people can exercise, socialise and try new things. It will connect people from different backgrounds and ages, creating a community hub for great local wellbeing."

Job opportunities at the café will be advertised once opening dates and hours are confirmed. Volunteer positions will also be available, with free DBS checks, safeguarding training and ongoing personal development opportunities.
