The garden waste subscription covers from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026.

We’re currently experiencing a temporary issue with the payment system for the garden waste service. Our team is aware and working hard to get things back on track as soon as possible. We really appreciate your patience and understanding, and we’ll let you know as soon as it’s resolved.

How much does it cost?

The cost of subscribing to this service from 1 April 2025 is:

  • 1 new bin - £45.00
  • Any additional bins are £26.00 each

An Autumn discount is being offered from 1 October 2025 till 31 March 2026.  The discounted cost will be:

  • Any additional bins are £13.00

The easiest and quickest way to subscribe is online, using our Garden Waste Subscription form (Opens in a New Window).

What does the subscription include?

Reminder: Please ensure that your current garden waste subscription sticker is displayed on the back of your brown-lidded garden bin. Failure to show a current sticker will result in your brown-lidded garden bin not being emptied.

If you have not received or have lost your sticker then please contact environment@broxtowe.gov.uk and a replacement will be sent out to you.

Residents are not permitted to photocopy stickers.

Thank you for your support.

Can I share a bin with a neighbour?

Yes, you can. Although any personal agreements made between neighbours are not the responsibility of the Council.

The bin will need to be assigned to one property, with the sticker attached and presented for collection only from the property of the address which the subscription is assigned too.

Why can’t I put food waste in the brown-lidded garden bin?

This bin is not a compost bin; by putting food waste into your bin, it can introduce unwanted bacteria. Your garden waste is then transferred to be composted on open air systems, these bacteria can then spread very quickly and lead to outbreaks of disease.

Why hasn't my bin been collected?

  • Your bin will not be collected if it is too heavy to be emptied safely by the collection crew.  In this case, you will need to remove the excess weight and re-present your bin on your next scheduled collection day.
  • If your bin contains Japanese knotweed, it will not be collected.  It is an invasive plant and contaminates the waste stream.  This can be taken to your local Recycling Centre.  To find your local recycling centre click here

When will my bin arrive?

A brown-lidded bin should be delivered within 5 working days from receipt of the payment. These may be refurbished and will remain the property of Broxtowe Borough Council.

If I move to another property within Broxtowe, can I transfer my subscription?

Yes – residents moving house within the Borough who wish to take their subscription to their new premises must inform the Council within 5 working days prior to moving. This will ensure that your subscription is transferred, and a new sticker can be issued.

Where does my garden waste go?

Garden waste is taken to the open-air Veolia facility in Oxton (Opens in a new window).
