Broxtowe Borough Council Installs Its 50th Mayor

14/5/2026 - Councillor Barbara Carr was installed as the 50th Mayor of Broxtowe last night (13 May) at the Annual Meeting of Broxtowe Borough Council.

Barbara, a Broxtowe Independent Group Councillor for Beeston North, was first elected as a Borough Councillor for Beeston North in 2011. Through

her political career, Barbara has been involved in a number of Committees and Working Groups including as Deputy Chair of the Housing Committee, Leisure and Health Committee, the Broxtowe Refugee Forum, the Member Development Group, Licensing and Appeals Committee, Events, Arts, Culture and Heritage Working Group and the Policy Overview Working Group.

She is very involved in her local community including roles as a school governor, exam invigilator and trustee of the Citizens Advice Bureau. Barbara’s passion is for bringing communities together and people of all ages, nationalities and background. She hopes to continue this during her year as Mayor.

Barbara has committed to raise funds for Broxtowe Youth Homelessness and Age UK Notts, causes that are close to her heart throughout her mayoral year.

“I’m really delighted to take on the role of Mayor,” said Barbara. “In my role as a Councillor and during my time as Deputy Mayor, I’ve met so many wonderful people who work timelessly to support our community. I am really looking forward to learning more about their work and to recognising some of these people during the year.”

Councillor Carr takes over from past Mayor (2025-26), Councillor Robert Bullock, following his successful year in office which saw him undertake 252 engagements and raise over £9500 for Broxtowe Women’s Project and The Brain Tumour Charity.

Councillor Sarah Webb, a Broxtowe Alliance Councillor for Beeston Rylands, will assist Councillor Barbara Carr as the Deputy Mayor of the Borough.
