Connecting Europe through art: International exhibition arrives at Stapleford Library
Displaying a mixture of around 25 paintings, photographs, and mixed media, the artwork offers diverse perspectives on life across Europe on themes such as distance and proximity, connection and difference.
The exhibition explores how art transcends borders, building bridges and fostering greater connection with our European neighbours and is part of the C-City partnership.
The C-City partnership between Broxtowe, Châteauroux (France), Falun (Sweden), Grudziądz (Poland), Gütersloh (Germany), is cultural exchange project that focusses on a number of different cultural strands such as visual arts, music, and history.
Portfolio Holder for Health and Leisure, and Councillor Teresa Cullen, said, “Broxtowe’s C-City partnership is a fantastic example of cultural exchange and collaboration across borders, and this unique exhibition continues to demonstrate how we can work with our neighbours to strengthen connections.
“The exhibition contains some truly wonderful pieces and brings a slice of each of our partner cities to Broxtowe, while giving a platform to some amazing local artists, Janet Shipton, Toby Anderton, and Lesley Grand-Scutton, both in Broxtowe and in our partner cities.”
Lesley Grand-Scutton, whose work features in the exhibition, added, “The C-City partnership provides a vehicle for the coming together of people with common interests allowing them to share ideas, form friendships and to highlight their talents, be those in all forms of visual arts, music, drama or heritage.
“With so much division in today’s world, any initiative that fosters positive connections between the people of different nations should definitely be celebrated!”
