The Mayor - Councillor Robert Bullock
Councillor Robert Bullock has had a distinguished career in public service and community engagement. He began his journey in local governance by serving two terms as a Councillor on Greasley Parish during the 1990s. His dedication to community service continued when he was elected to Eastwood Town Council in 2019. In May 2023, he became a Broxtowe Borough Councillor for Eastwood Hall ward, where he lives with his wife Lily. His son, Councillor Matthew Bullock, is also an Eastwood Town Councillor and served as Eastwood Town Mayor from 2024-2025.
Robert dedicated thirty years to the fire service, primarily stationed at Dunkirk Fire Station, before retiring in 2008. His career didn't end there; he transitioned to roles in sports anti-doping and workplace drugs and alcohol screening, contributing to these fields until his retirement in 2022.
Throughout his career, Robert has been deeply involved in the local community. He has served in various capacities, including as a school governor, trustee, and treasurer of the Eastwood Volunteer Bureau. His passion for preserving local heritage is evident through his role as trustee and treasurer of The Friends of the Cromford Canal. Currently, he continues his community service as a trustee of Eastwood Age Concern.
In his leisure time, Robert enjoys playing golf and fishing. His love for these activities extends to organising and participating in a golf society and an angling club.
Robert is committed to making a positive impact by raising funds for Broxtowe Women’s Project and The Brain Tumour Charity, causes that are close to his heart.
Broxtowe Women’s Project provides crucial support to women and children affected by domestic abuse, offering them the resources and assistance they need to rebuild their lives. The Brain Tumour Charity is dedicated to funding research and providing support for those affected by brain tumours. Robert’s efforts will provide essential financial support, raise awareness, and encourage others to get involved.
Robert’s consort for the year will be his wife Lily and they’re looking forward to attending lots of community events, especially the Play Days and Christmas Light Switch On events. They also look forward to meeting people from across the Borough and learning more about the different organisations that make our Borough so rich.
Deputy Mayor - Councillor Barbara Carr
Councillor Barbara Carr was born and grew up in Bulwell, Nottingham. After marrying in 1990, she moved to Chilwell. Their son, Thomas, was born four years later, and the family relocated to Beeston in 1999. Barbara first became a Councillor in 2011 and was re-elected in 2015, 2019, and 2023.
She attended Manning Grammar School and Clarendon College, where she studied Business and Accountancy alongside languages. Barbara worked for NatWest Bank for over 20 years before transitioning to a career in Mortgage Development. She retired from the workforce in 2017.
Barbara now dedicates her time to working hard for residents as their Councillor. Initially hesitant to become a Councillor, she has found great satisfaction in helping people with their issues and values the varied and worthwhile nature of the role.
As an Independent Councillor, Barbara believes in community cohesion and aims to improve the living environment for all residents, regardless of their political views or needs. She currently represents the Council for The United Charities of Abel Collins Homes and is a member of Broxtowe’s Refugee Steering Group. She has also served as a Trustee of Citizens Advice Broxtowe.
In her spare time, Barbara enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her cat, Chrissie.
