Broxtowe Local Plan

The new Broxtowe Local Plan will replace the existing Part 1 and Part 2 Local Plans. It will guide how Broxtowe grows and develops over the coming years, setting out the Council’s vision and priorities for future development, including the location of new homes, employment, infrastructure and services. It will also establish how high-quality, well-designed places will be created, while protecting and enhancing Broxtowe's natural environment, biodiversity and green infrastructure.

Gateway 1

On 31st October 2026, the Council passed through "Gateway 1". Gateway 1 is the first of three mandatory gateways that Councils must pass through to adopt a plan within 30 months. Gateway 1 involves self-assessing the Council's readiness to start the 30-month plan preparation process and publishing a summary of this self-assessment.

The Council has prepared a self-assessment.

The Council has also prepared an Engagement Plan.

Scoping Consultation

The Council has produced a Scoping Document. This scoping document is the first formal stage in preparing the new Broxtowe Local Plan. It asks questions to help shape what the Plan should cover before detailed policies and site allocations are prepared.

Consultation on the proposed local plan content and the evidence base will follow. 

The consultation ran from Tuesday 15th September to Tuesday 20th October and is now closed. Consultation comments are currently being reviewed. 

The Council will also be undertaking a separate 'Call for Sites' exercise following the Scoping Consultation with further details announced in due course.

Notice of Intention to Commence Plan Preparation

On 30 June 2026, the Council published a Notice of Intention to Commence Local Plan Preparation(.pdf)(118KB)(Opens in New Window) (Opens in a New Window) in accordance with the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2026.
