Broxtowe Honours Armed Forces Heroes ahead of Armed Forces Day

15/06/2026 - The Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Barbara Carr, will raise a specially commissioned Armed Forces Day Flag in The Square, Beeston on Monday 22 June at 11.00am to mark a week of events being held across the country.

Trevor Fletcher, Deputy Lieutenant, will join Councillor Carr to raise the flag and address representatives from the uniformed organisations to show our support and appreciation for the men and women who serve, or have served, in His Majesty’s Armed Forces.

“I am glad that we can have our flag raising ceremony in Beeston Square. Flying this flag is our way of showing support and gratitude for all that the Armed Forces do.” said Councillor Barbara Carr.

“Armed Forces Day gives us an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contribution made by the Armed Forces community. It is a time to honour the service and sacrifice of our veterans, acknowledge the dedication and professionalism of those currently serving, and highlight the opportunities that military service offers to future generations." continued Councillor Barbara Carr.

“The Armed Forces Service personnel have played a vital role both at home and overseas. From protecting UK waters and supporting international maritime security to working alongside NATO allies to strengthen collective defence and contributing to operations that promote stability around the world, members of the Armed Forces continue to demonstrate exceptional skill, commitment, and professionalism. I would like to thank all of them for working tirelessly to defend the Country and protecting our lives no matter what we are facing.”

At the same time, local authorities, members of the public, businesses and schools throughout the country will also raise their own Armed Forces Day flags to honour the nation’s servicemen and women.

This year’s Armed Forces Day will take place on Saturday 27 June to honour the British Armed Forces past and present, service families, reservists, and cadets.
