Broxtowe launch tourism campaign ‘Tour Your Town’

Broxtowe is a Borough of makers and doers with a strong industrial heritage, coal mining and brewing in the north, and pencils and lace in the south, which has shaped the place we know today and persists in the spirit of its residents.

Broxtowe holds some of the country’s finest landmarks and tributes to our industrial heritage including Bennerley Viaduct, the largest of two remaining iron wrought viaducts in the UK, and the birthplace and museum of D.H. Lawrence, one England’s greatest writers, who grew up in the mining town of Eastwood and wrote regularly about his experiences.

Nature and green spaces play a big role in its offering, with a fine selection of nature reserves, parks, and trails throughout including Attenborough Nature Reserve, Colliers Wood, and the Nottingham Canal Trail.

Broxtowe’s businesses are fiercely independent, with an eclectic and unique mix right across the Borough – award-winning food and drinks and hidden gems are never far away.

The Council are encouraging you to be a tourist in your own town, explore places close to home, and discover something new about the places closest to you.

Portfolio Holder for Health and Leisure, Councillor Teresa Cullen, said, “Broxtowe has such an incredible cultural offering, right across the Borough, with each of our four main towns having a distinct identity. We’ve got literary legends, Iron Giants, nature reserves, award-winning independent businesses and most of all, incredibly welcoming and passionate people.”

“This campaign is as much for residents as it is for visitors, so often we ignore the places that are so close to us and say that we’ll visit later because ‘it’s only up the road’, and yet those closest to us are among the best in the county, if not the country.

“So get out there, visit that local attraction you’ve always meant to see, pop into that restaurant or pub you keep hearing about, learn something new about the place you live and discover the people that make us proud to be from Broxtowe!”
