Description
The Canalside Heritage Centre is preparing a special exhibition charting the birth of the Beeston Rylands Community, starting with the Bronze Age Clifton Pile Settlement c1000 BCE discovered in 1939 in the river Trent in the Weir Field. We look back at the early residents of Rylands in 1796, with the building of Beeston and Nottingham Canal. Learn how community life on the waterways thrived to become the Rylands that we know today. See the Beeston "Bayeux" Tapestry, in 1926 local families commissioned the Rylands Mission Hall Sunday School Banner and proudly carried it through the streets. After disappearing for decades, the Banner was rediscovered and is now being conserved for this special centenary exhibition in 2026.Venue
