Reading Group: 'Return to Bestwood'

An exploration of Lawrence's short story 'Return to Bestwood' and how it ties to Lawrence's final visit to Eastwood and the 1926 Miner's Strike.

Date

Time

7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Description

Led by Dr David Amos and John Pateman, this reading group will examine D.H. Lawrence’s short story, 'Return to Bestwood'. Lawrence visited Eastwood for the last time in September 1926 at a time when the Miner’s Lockout was starting to collapse and the return to work was gathering momentum. The reading group will discuss aspects of the text in relation to the General Strike and Miners Lockout in general, and what followed after Lawrence’s visit, reverberations from which still exist in the complicated and contested history of the Nottinghamshire miners’. This is a FREE but ticketed event, as part of the D.H. Lawrence Festival.
