Nominations Open for the 2027 Broxtowe Voluntary Awards

Volunteers give so much of their free time, effort, and energy without ever asking for anything back. The Broxtowe Voluntary Awards give us all the chance to recognise these people’s contributions to their communities across the Borough, with anyone able to nominate someone they feel should be honoured and celebrated for their work.

The Awards are split into 8 categories:

• Young Volunteer Award – for those under 18 who’ve given their time and effort to benefit their community.
• Community Hero Award – for those who have demonstrated that they have gone above and beyond for their community as a whole, or for an individual neighbour.
• Community Events and Culture Award – recognising volunteers who bring people together through community events, arts, culture, heritage, and local traditions.
• Sport and Wellbeing Award – for volunteers who inspire others to be active, healthy, and engaged through sport, physical activity, or wellbeing initiatives.
• Green Community Award – recognising those who help keep Broxtowe clean, green, and sustainable through environmental projects, litter picking, conservation, or community gardening activities.
• Benefitting Broxtowe Award – for the volunteer who has made a demonstratable impact on a large area of Broxtowe or who has implemented something that has benefited a substantial number of residents.

And new for 2027:

• Bringing People Together Award – for volunteers who bring people together, reduce isolation, and help create more inclusive, welcoming, and connected communities.
• Older people’s Champion Award – for those who have improved the lives, wellbeing, or independence of older people in Broxtowe.

Shortlisted entrants will be invited to a ceremony in March 2027, where the winners will be presented with their awards by the Mayor of Broxtowe, Councillor Barbara Carr.

“The Broxtowe Voluntary awards highlight what Broxtowe stands for – kindness, service and friendship. As Mayor, I’m proud that they give me the chance to recognise and honour those people who transform lives by selflessly volunteering to help others. Their contribution is one of the ways that makes Broxtowe such a great place to live."
