Women’s football coming to Eastwood Community Football Club thanks to Council grant
The grant, approved by Cabinet on Tuesday 29 September, will contribute towards the cost of new kits and 70 hours of professional coaching continuing over the season.
The new team creates a new pathway for local women and girls to get involved in sport, making football accessible and affordable through the club, supporting physical health, mental wellbeing, confidence and personal development in a safe and supportive community environment.
Portfolio Holder for Resources and Personnel Policy, Councillor Greg Marshall, said, “I have always been a big believer that sports can play such a vital role in our communities in bringing people together, and improving both physical and mental wellbeing, which is why it’s so important that we support community clubs like this where we’re able to.
“I’m also really pleased that in an area where women are currently underrepresented in sports, we’ve been able to support the formation of a new opportunity for local women to become involved in sport. The team also provides something for young girls in the area to aspire to and increases their chances of remaining in sport when they progress from the youth level.”
