Listed building repurposed as alternate education centre in Stapleford
Previously unoccupied for almost 12 months, Stapleford House needed essential maintenance and improvements to bring the building back into use, including ongoing drainage works, set to be complete by the end of the year.
Conquer Learning provide a safe space to grow confidence, build trust, and develop meaningful progress across academic, emotional, and social development in students who have struggled in traditional settings. Education is personalised for each student, with specialized support available for pupils with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) and SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
Conquer Learning began their journey a year ago at the Stapleford Community Pavilion, and after a successful first year have moved into their new home, allowing them to increase the number of student slots and create dedicated learning spaces where pupils can thrive.
Built in 1782, the Council and Conquer Learning ensure that this historical asset in Stapleford continues to be used to for the betterment of the community that surrounds it.
Conquer Learning Director, Siobhan Stevenitt, said, “Conquer Learning was created because, through my experience in education, I saw a gap in the system. I had seen too many young people defined by what they couldn’t do, rather than being given the opportunity to discover what they could. We believe education should start with the young person understanding their strengths, challenges and aspirations, and then creating the right opportunities for them to succeed
“Our ethos is simple: Conquering Challenges. Creating Opportunities. Our new home at Stapleford House represents that vision: a place where young people can feel understood, valued and believed in, and where they can discover that their past does not have to define their future.”
Portfolio Holder for Asset Management and Development, Councillor Milan Radulovic MBE, said, “Alternative education provision like Conquer Learning is vital to support the needs of young people who might have struggled in traditional schools, especially with the demand for places so high.
“The journey the team and students have been on in the past year has been amazing to see, beginning at the new Stapleford Community Pavilion, to now moving into their own dedicated space at Stapleford House. I’m really looking forward to seeing them progress even further in the years to come and make meaningful change to the lives of young people in our communities.
