Wellbeing Walks
We offer a programme of monthly Wellbeing Walks focused on getting an hour of fresh air, exploring the local area and meeting people. On the walks you can enjoy Broxtowe’s beautiful countryside, whilst learning about local heritage, and of course, D.H. Lawrence.
Wellbeing walks will take place on the first Tuesday of most months, meeting at 10.00am at the Birthplace Museum on Victoria Street, Eastwood.
2026 dates will therefore be:

Reading Group: 'Return to Bestwood'
Thursday 10 September, 7pm.
Led by Dr David Amos and John Pateman, this reading group will examine D.H. Lawrence’s short story, 'Return to Bestwood'. Lawrence visited Eastwood for the last time in September 1926 at a time when the Miner’s Lockout was starting to collapse and the return to work was gathering momentum. The reading group will discuss aspects of the text in relation to the General Strike and Miners Lockout in general, and what followed after Lawrence’s visit, reverberations from which still exist in the complicated and contested history of the Nottinghamshire miners’.

Heritage Open Days
Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, 10am - 4pm
Step back in time with costumed guides describing family life in Lawrence's first home, part of the National Heritage Open Days.
A FREE event, no need to book.
Gin and Gaslight
Friday 9 October, 7pm.
The D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum is lit with original gaslight, making an evening visit especially charming and atmospheric. Guests will have time to engage with the hosts and learn more about D.H. Lawrence and the Eastwood of old. Then, guests will be offered several gins to sample and learn about their history and flavour profiles.
This is a popular ticketed event and places are limited, therefore booking early is advisable. Victorian costume is not essential but always celebrated.

The Optimist’s Incomplete by SEVHAGE: A Poetry and Photo Exhibition of (Un)Finished Becoming and More
23 July - 13 September
Produced by SEVHAGE ABC4DE, TransitUs, and BBAAF, and curated by Su’ur Su’eddie Vershima Agema, this exhibition brings together poetry, photography, letters and handwritten notes, in a layered conversation around love, (dis)trust, memory, nostalgia, sensuality, migration, inheritance, fracture, healing, and unfinished becoming. The exhibition will also feature some open poetry readings inspired by its central themes.
Inspired in part by D.H. Lawrence’s poetry and literary oeuvre, the exhibition explores a broad range of themes and interrogates various shades of optimism – what it means to be or not be, and the incompleteness of what lies in-between in our contemporary reality.
C-City: Connecting Europe Through Art
17 September - 31 October
Broxtowe Borough Council is engaged in a cultural partnership known as the C-City Project, which is focused on European cultural cooperation. Broxtowe signed a charter alongside cities in Germany, Sweden, France and Poland to share arts, heritage and community best practices.
The travelling art exhibition is part of the C-City: Connecting Europe Through Art project. This collaborative European initiative features artworks created by citizens and artists from five twinned "C-Cities": Falun (Sweden), Broxtowe (UK), Gütersloh (Germany), Châteauroux (France), and Grudziadz (Poland).
